I have a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I don't know if the seats are the same, but I definitely had problems getting the rear seats down. Someone finally showed me, so I hope I can talk you through it! First take the head rests off. Then there is a lever on the outer part of the seat bottom next to the door (which I had trouble finding, but it's there). Pull that lever up and then it will allow you to pull the back of the seat down flat. Once I pulled that lever up, the seat came down easy. Good luck!

Mysti is correct. There's little levers there to pull the seats forward, and let the backs collapse. The head rests store in the backs of the seat bottoms when the seat is folded down.
