Question:
Jeep Liberty 2005 Front Passenger Airbag Light remains on, warning air bag is "off"?

I bought this vehicle used.

The front passenger airbag light, lights up when someone is sitting in the front passenger seat. The light warns that the airbag is off.

In my manual it says:

NOTE: The passenger front airbag may not deploy even
when the driver front airbag has if the Occupant Classification
System (refer to “Occupant Classification System”
in this section) has determined the seat is empty or
is occupied by someone that is classified in the “child”
category. This could be a child, a teenager, or even a small
adult.

So do you think that my passengers are below the weight limit for the airbag to deploy, and should sit in the back seat?

Or is there a switch to turn the airbag back on?

Or is there a huge problem?

If your passenger is under 125 LBS then yes the system is working properly. Even if the air bag dosent deploy you and your passenger should have your seat belts on. The air bag is a SRS (supplement restraint system) meaning your belts are the primary system. No switch to make the system to come on when the light is on. And no you dont have a 7/70 warranty on it unless you bought that warranty, they are basic 3/36

I'm not positive about the specifics of your Jeep, but cars with airbags have a "power on self test" where the computer will check the functionality of the airbag system. They way you can tell they are working correctly is if when you turn the key to the on position, you should see the "airbag" light light up for several seconds then go out. If it does this, then the airbag system is operating correctly. There could be a problem with the sensor in the seat, I would think, without the airbag system throwing a code, though. How heavy is the passenger sitting in the seat? I think the sensor is supposed to trip somewhere around 20lbs. If you have a small child in the seat (highly advise against it), and it doesn't trip to being activated, I'd think there is something wrong with the sensor. Since it is an '05, I would think it should still be under warranty (aren't Chrysler products covered for 7yr/70k miles?). If so, have the dealership check it out for you.
