First whenever you post on here give the year of the vehicle because things change from year to year. If none the brake lights are working it's either fuse #12 or the brake light switch. The fuse is in the fuse at the end of the dash board on the drivers side. The brake light switch is typically located under the dash board on or near the top of the brake petal.

On my 2004 Jeep Liberty the brake lights remained on. I checked the wiring and connection and they were all secure. Finally, after reading these forums and searching the internet I decided to replace the brake light switch. I found one locally for $11.99 and replaced it using procedure and tips stated earlier. The switch, indeed, was the culprit and all my problems went away!
Replacing the switch requires you to be in a very awkward upside down position. I would strongly suggest you drop the lower dash panel by grasping at either sides and pulling back and the switch will be in full sight with easy access to the switch and wiring connector making it much easier to fix.

It can a burnt fuse, a bad switch that stuck opened at the brake pedal, an opened circuit (i.e. a broken wire) or it can be a poor connection from light bulb to the housing. You need to check it step by step, using DC volt meter and ohm meter to address the problem and fix it. Good lucks.

There is a switch up under the dash that is activated when the brake pedal moves, it has probably gone bad. It's a pretty easy fix if you know what you're doing.

i agree that the switch has gone bad. it is connected to a brace that is close to the brake pedal. it has two screws or bolts holding it. it is small and boxlike.

Could be a fuse, or a short.
