I recently bought an 01 wrangler. I rarely use the A/C, but when i do it only blows out when the fan is set on the highest setting or the lowest. There are two mid range settings that never work. I've removed the knob and nothing is broken. Any ideas?

Go to your local jeep shop and buy a new fan switch. That is all that you need to do. It is a quick, quick fix with a screwdriver and a 1/4 socket. My 6 year old and me switched mine out in 15 minutes, and that was with me showing and explaining what I was doing. Am I a mechanic--not by any means. On a scale from 1-10 my technical aptitude is about a 6. So you can do that pretty easy. You take off the center console thing (i think its called the cowling) that covers the radio, ashtray and a/c switches--There are 2 screws on top of the dash, one in the ashtray. Take that off, remove the a/c switch panel, remove the switch and replace the old one. Be sure to make a note of which one if old and which one is new. Put it all back together and you are done. I have a 99 wrangler as my everyday driver and live in texas. It is a switch. $10 fix. Ask the parts guy at the Jeep shop. They can explain it better. It's super easy.

I,d remove your hvac control unit (assembly which has your blower motor control, a/c, panel mode switches) and remove the connectors and make sure especially the main power wire connector is not melted (did have this problem in a wrangler). If that's OK I'd inspect the blower motor resistor which is if I remember correctly you can get to by removing your glove box. It's a rectangular box with 5/16(8mm) or Phillips head screws. Check to see if the coils are melted or corrosion at the base. Some resistors don't have coils and look like a card type. Bubbles on the card type indicate a faulty resistor. Good Luck!

There are a few things - the older vehicles used a Resistor to control the fan speeds, not sure on yours, yours might be digital and might have to change the controller. I need more info like engine size,to help you out. Contact me if you need more help.

Good Luck
