The TJ is the wrangler from years 1996-2006 the JK is the newer model jeep from 2007 on. If your going to get a TJ there is a few different models. If you plan on lifting or offroading it anytime soon I would consider the rubicon, sport or sehara models, because they have different gear ratios in the axles so you can run bigger tires easier. With the X model the biggest size tire you can run is a 31 and that's pushing it a bit. Im sure the same is true with the JK models as well, but I would look into it to be sure.

It depends on trim level and mileage. Low mileage, well equipped 2007s hover around $20,000. A comparable 2006 would be around $5,000 less, but note that it would be an older body style (TJ).

I have an 08 JK. I did like the body style of the TJ though. You can get a decent deal on an older tj but people who buy them tend to keep them so don't expect to get one dirt cheap. Look at www.edmunds.com TMV or www.kbb.com to find out what to expect pricing to be.
