Though it's never been fully proven, "Jeep" probably came from the military term G.P. (meaning "general purpose" vehicle) and the letters got slurred together.

To be completely honest, no person is attentive to for particular. ignore what others replica and paste from the hugely incorrect Wikipedia on line crap. Jeep replaced into no longer a registered call unitl 1946. Many sense that Jeep got here from GP or typical objective, incorrect. The expert US military call for the motor vehicle is: motor vehicle, tactical truck, a million/4 ton. Many sense it replaced into from the Popeye comic strip caracter Eugene the Jeep who ought to pass everywhere and do purely approximately something. Eisenhower, Churchill, and Patton all agree that the Willy's and Ford produced Jeep's replaced into between the keys to winning international conflict 2. The Bantam Corp. produced the 1st prototype. the U. S. military replaced into searching for a small recon motor vehicle that should be manuverable over purely approximately any terrian. Unfortunatley for Bantam( the only company to offer a prototype from over 20 automobile makers on the time), replaced into no longer allowed to construct the now widespread Jeep. quite it went to Willy's-Overland(who bought the Jeep Corp, to AMC in 1970) and Ford Motor company. the only thank you to distingush that's that's to look on the bolt heads and stumble on the widespread Ford script brand on each Ford geared up Jeep. Jeep began the 4 wheel force marketplace. squaddies getting back from conflict needed the little issues to do what they did in conflict. pass everywhere every time. So the CJ-a million replaced into born. CJ stands for Civilan Jeep. The CJ-2 and 3 have been made to enforce farming procedures. The elusive CJ-10 is the main uncommon right here interior the U. S.. It replaced into made for export. yet some got here upon there till now homestead. Jeep has replaced plenty by way of the years, yet for the main section till Chrysler made the TJ in 1996, maximum all Jeep areas have been interchangeable with one yet another.

Just Empty Every Pocket?

The legend I have heard is that it was General Purpose Vehicle or GP. There was also a popular cartoon character at the time called Jeeper who wen around saying "Jeep Jeep." The GI's called the GP a Jeep and the name stuck.

i suggest that "redhairedbitch" poster should leave this jeep forum. i wonder what kind of car she drives. anyway, jeep doesnt stand for that, just like no popular car company stands for anything. these are just acronyms that ppl make up for some stupid reason. ford doesnt stand for fix or repair daily, and whatever the guy said about fiat is also nonsense. i dont know much about fiats, besides the fact they are cheap italian vehicles, but ford is obv a last name, and jeep came from the similar sounding acronym "G-P", which was "general purpose" or "government purpose". if u want more info, hit up wiki.
Duh!!!

I agree with redhairedmama on this. I have a jeep cherokee (so does she) and I have had nothing but problems with it. It is the cheapest quality piece of **** I have ever had in my life. Luckily my daily driver is a real car.
