A few days ago I was driving my jeep it started "sputtering" and then turned off. I started it again and it only stayed on for a few seconds and then turned off, I tried a few more times but the same thing happened. I had it towed to my mechanic and he had trouble figuring out what the problem was. It turns out there was a bad sensor and he replaced it 4250. I drove the Jeep home and it was fine. The next morning I get in and start it up and the same thing happened, it shuts off seconds later. I had it towed back to the mechanic and he has had it for a couple of days now. Today he tells me it may be a bad computer or wiring harness. Has anyone ever experienced something like this or have any ideas? I'm assuming if it was the computer or wiring harness it would be way too expensive to fix for a 98 model. Any advice would be appreciated.

Not sure how smart your friend is there but I would tow it to the Jeep Dealership & let them look at it. Cant say what it is without diagnosing the vehicle. Not sure if your mechanic has half the common sense to at least check all the power & ground circuits it feeds a PCM but cant be too smart if he is condemning the wiring harness. We real technicians tend to run new wires if it is indeed a wiring issue & it doesnt become a wiring issue just overnite either. Usually it will have had a few issues up to this point but now is the time to have an experienced tech that knows what he/she is doing & look at it

Carry it too a shop. They'll know more than you're friend.

They are known for connection problems at the ecu put a couple zip ties around the ecu holding the wiring harness in. They also have crank position sensor problems
